Cambridge Fun Run
The Design Portfolio has helped organise the Cambridge Fun Run for over two years now including this year's event, which took place on Friday 18 November 2011. We designed the branding, built the website, complete with a countdown to the race day, news alerts and a photo uploader, and helped create the t-shirts, banners and posters. We also enter teams into the Fun Run, which raises money for BBC Children in Need.
Emily Hemus, who works in our Cambridge office, is on the Cambridge Fun Run Committee and met weekly with the other Fun Run members to organise this year's event. "We are very proud to be a part of this local charity, which brings a lot of the business community together for such a fantastic and worthy cause," says Emily.
The Cambridge Fun Run is in its 21st year and raised over £21,000 for BBC Children in Need last year. It sees over 600 people, from local businesses in and around Cambridge, take part in the 4.4 mile relay race around the Cambridge Science Park. View the thank you letter from the Cambridge Fun Run. BCCS
Brentwood Catholic Children's Society (BCCS) provides counselling for children and young adults up to the age of 18, regardless of their beliefs, together with their families, who could be experiencing emotional difficulties. Ian Restall, Managing Director of the The Design Portfolio, is Vice Chairperson of the charity.
The Design Portfolio has worked with BCCS for five years now, designing, typesetting and printing their annual review report as well as fundraising leaflets and posters. Winter 2010 also saw the launch of a brand new website for BCCS, designed and built by Terry O'Leary, Head of Online. The Design Portfolio employees have been active in fundraising for the charity, our biggest challenge being an anniversary skydive to celebrate their 25th year! DPMS Autumn Classic 6 and 7 October
Friday 7 October 2011 Amateurs and professionals alike prepare for the final day of the 2011 DPMS Autumn Classic at Thorpeness Golf Club. The DPMS-sponsored event has been part of the PGA East Region Pro-Am Calendar for the last ten years and is played at two of Suffolk's Heritage Coast premier Golf clubs, Aldeburgh GC and Thorpeness GC. The event was full with some 46 Pro-Am teams competing.
Ian Restall, MD of DPMS, said, "This is our sixth year sponsoring this event and a big thank you to the PGA for their ever professional job in running the tournament, both Aldeburgh and Thorpeness Golf Clubs for the fantastic condition of both courses and to our guests and competitors for joining us on what proved to be a very enjoyable, if testing, couple of days."
The event was won by Luke Eggleston (Orsett GC) and his amateur partner Jon Gower.

The MND Association
During 2011, Carl Wilson, our Online Business Development Manager, took on the challenge of raising both awareness and resources for a cause that he holds dear to his heart, The MND Association, an organisation which specialises in providing care for sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Over the past 10 months Carl has organised and participated in a series of challenges, including kayaking the length of the river Thames, a 150km night time bike ride, the UK Three Peak Challenge and in October 2011, the ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro.
These challenges, in addition to a number of other events, have generated almost £20,000 of much-needed funds and Carl hopes to continue to increase this figure into 2012 with a number of already organised projects. For further information on Carl's campaign, please visit www.mndcharityevents.org.
